In steam rightlick KSP -> Properties ->Local Files -> Browse Local Files. That brings you to the master binder. In there y'all will find GameData. Thats where the mods go in. They usually come packed already with a GameData Folder, in which case yous unpack the contents of this folder into GameData, or directly with a folder for the modernistic directly, which simply gets unpacked in here.
Make sure you get a mod for the right version (currently 1.2.two, but there are many many outdated mods out there).

WinRAR archive format or Zip archive more common. If your computer system can non open such annal files y'all need to go a freeware version on the internet.

I would heartily recommend the Comprehensive Kerbal Archive Network(CKAN for curt). It not just has a big library of mods, their compatabilities with each other, and all the relevant links. CKAN also makes sure that any dependencies of mods are suggested to be downloaded with mods and searches for updates. Unfortunately a couple of disquisitional mods are not part of CKAN(looking at you Ferrams), for which the higher up advice works perfect.
