How to Repair a Leaking Cuisinart Coffee Maker

Equipment:

  • Cuisinart DCC-2600 Mash Central 14-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe (now replaced by the DCC-2650 model)

Tools Needed:

  • Needle nose pliers (for removing the hose clench)
  • CR-VT10 Security Torx Driver (get as a set or individual tool) (must accept a thin shaft to fit down into the recessed hole)
  • Size three apartment precision screwdriver (this can be used to remove the security torx screws)
  • Cordless Drill (I beloved my Makita)
  • Drill Bits (if you end upwards demoing a bit of the internals to re-utilize your former hose)
  • Wire nipper (for clipping out the plastic webbing to make the path for the onetime hose shorter–this is a dandy tool if you lot do any electronics work)

Parts (optional, I repaired mine with no parts necessary):

  • High temperature silicone tubing .312 ID Ten .472

Repair Instructions:

Step 1: Unplug the coffee maker.

We are going to open it upward and so you lot definitely do non want it plugged in equally you could be shocked.

Pace 2: Empty any water out of the tank.

I simply turned mine upside down over the sink.

Step three:  Lay the coffee maker on its back so you can access the screws on the bottom.

We desire to remove the lesser plate.  The screws are located in recessed holes located as indicated below.  You exercise not need to remove whatever of the safe anxiety to access the screws, btw.

Stride iv: Remove the four bottom screws.

These screws are security Torx-10 headed screws.  This means they are Torx-x with an additional pin that sticks up in the eye of the spiral head.  Here you can come across a close-up of the spiral caput:

Shut-upwards of the security screws

The bit tip for these screws looks like this, a torx with a hole in the middle:

Here is what the torx-10 security bit tip looks like

Unfortunately, the hole in the case is too small to use a chip tip like the one pictured above, as it won't fit deep enough into the narrow-diameter pigsty.  Lucky for united states, yous tin use a 3mm precision apartment-tip screwdriver fleck instead, which barely fits down into the corners of the star shape:

I also discovered that you tin can alternatively use a smaller apartment-tip screwdriver bit, which will sideslip past the security mail service and sink down into the head.  One time you remove the four screws, you lot may need to sideslip a apartment-caput screwdriver up into the seam to get the bottom out.  Hither the lower cover has been removed:

Here is what information technology looks like inside:

Pace v: Observe the coffee maker leak location.

Once you have the bottom cover off yous can search for the leak.  I've heard of people discovering a leak in the aluminum heating chemical element every bit well as the rubber tubing.  Rapidly I was able to run across a light-colored line on the top side of one of the hoses, just in a higher place where information technology connects to the heating element:

Location of crack in hose
Cause of the leak-a cracked hose

With a little pressure on the hose yous tin definitely come across that it is croaky all the way through–definitely the root cause of this leaking Cuisinart coffee maker:

Step 6: Remove the wire hose clamp.

Squeeze the hose clench and push button it back on the heating element, equally seen below:

Stride 7: Remove the heating element finish of the cracked hose.

If yours cracked just at the end of the heating chemical element connection you can likely just curve the hose and it will break off.  Alternatively you could cut information technology off with a carpet knife..

For those of you lot who want to replace the hose, I measured the heating element pipe at 0.447:

Measuring the outer diameter of the heating element with a caliper
Outer diameter 0.447″

I estimate that the replacement hose should have an ID of seven/16″ = 0.4375 or 11 mm.  I was not able to easily detect a replacement hose online.

Pace eight: Make room to re-use the quondam hose.

I didn't have whatever vii/sixteen″ ID (inner-diameter) high-temp food course hose lying around and so my commencement idea for solving my early forenoon pre-programmed caffeine habit was to put the old hose back on. I thought about adulterous the hose off the other end where it connects to the tank but I don't know how I would go up in nether the tank in order to get it off  and I was pretty concerned about damaging the brittle hose in the process.  The hose is a half-inch shorter now only information technology seemed like at that place was enough hose left to get it pushed on there far plenty to make it work.  To requite the hose a shorter path I decided to cutting out some of the webbing inside the coffee pot:

Diagram of the plastic webbing I removed to make a shorter path for the hose
I cut out this plastic to make a shorter path for the hose

I drilled some holes with my cordless drill then clipped out the plastic pieces remaining with my wire nippers:

Drilling holes in the plastic webbing

Holes drilled in plastic webbing
Holes drilled in plastic webbing
Webbing removed for a straighter hose path
Now in that location is a straighter path for the hose

Step 9: Reinstall the shorter hose on the heating element and reinstall the hose clamp.

You'll want to put the hose clamp on start, before reinstalling the hose.  I had to bend the hose clamp closed a bit because information technology seemed to accept opened up in the removal procedure.  I used some spit on the heating chemical element pipe before attempting to push the hose on.  I was only able to get the hose on about a maximum of 3/8″ on.Warning: I would not use any tools to squeeze the hose our you volition likely damage what little hose y'all have left.  Once you have the hose on, position the hose clamp in the center of the hose as seen below:

Hose and hose clamp reinstalled

Step 10: Reinstall the bottom cover.

I actually didn't put the screws dorsum into the bottom comprehend yet as I wanted to examination it out for a while and am withal shopping for a replacement hose source.  Let me know in the comments if you find a good source where you don't need to pay half the value of the java maker for 10 feet of hose when all I need is about a human foot.

And again, yous can use a apartment-tip screwdriver to reinstall those security torx screws!

The coffee maker is working just fine now so that is nice to be able to breathe life back into what could accept been the end of this appliance.
